Virgin Blue reports on its financial results for its fiscal first half

Virgin Blue Holdings Limited (Brisbane) reported an Underlying Net Profit Before Tax of A$72 million, in line with the guidance of $70-75 million announced to the market on January 25, 2011. The company reported a Net Profit After Tax of A$24 million.

In other news, the Virgin Blue Group of Airlines also announced it will build its first new wide-body hangar and associated infrastructure at Sydney Airport as part of a new engineering maintenance base to support its growing operations.

Finally in fleet news, Virgin Blue will introduce up to 18 ATR 72 turboprop aircraft as part of the recently announced strategic alliance with Sky West Airlines (Perth).

The first four of the 68-seat ATR 72 aircraft will be introduced in the middle of 2011, with a further four to arrive next year.
