Virgin America (San Francisco) narrowed its third quarter net loss to $5.9 million. However on bright side, the company reported an operating profit of $5.1 million.

Will Republic Airways replace Frontier’s Airbus fleet with Bombardier CSeries aircraft?

Republic Airways Holdings (Indianapolis), as the new owner of Frontier Airlines (2nd) (Denver), according to this report, is now considering acquiring Bombardier CSeries aircraft as a possible replacement (partial or in whole) of the Frontier Airbus fleet. The holding company is also talking to Airbus and Boeing. If ordered, who will operate the aircraft? Stay tuned, there could be changes coming to the popular Rocky Mountain airline in the coming years.

Frontier to serve Jackson Hole with summer flights

Frontier Airlines (2nd) (Denver) will add summer seasonal service to Jackson Hole (Jackson), WY from May 14, 2010 through September 12, 2010. The route will be operated by sister airline Republic Airlines (2nd) (Indianapolis) using its 99-seat Embraer ERJ 190s (so far being operated in Midwest Airlines colors).

Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner completes static tests

Boeing (Chicago, Seattle, Wichita and Charleston) has completed static tests on the first 787 Dreamliner. It hopes to make the first flight before the end of the month, weather permitting (the Seattle area has just experienced an unusually sunny December period but this is now changing).

PacificFlier.com (Palau) is a new airline which is planning to commence scheduled operations on January 7, 2010 to Brisbane, Guam, Manila (Clark) and Tokyo (Narita). HiFly will operate its Airbus A310-304 CS-TEI (msn 495) for the new flag carrier. The aircraft is painted in the basic colors of Oman Air with PacificFlier.com titles.

Airlink Embraer ERJ 135 overruns the runway at George

Airlink (Johannesburg) suffered through another accident yesterday (December 7) at George (South Africa). Embraer ERJ 135 ZS-SJW (msn 145423) overran the wet runway on landing and crashed through the security fence ending up on a road. The regional jet was operating flight SA 8625. There were only minor injuries.

United Airlines (Chicago) has ended its order drought and ordered 25 Airbus A350 XWBs and 25 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The company also secured 50 purchase rights for each type. The new aircraft will arrive between 2016 and 2019 and will replace its Boeing 747-400s and 767-300s.

JAL to receive $7.7 billion in state aid
