This Lockheed 1049G Super G Constellation registered CF-TGE (msn 4544) has been lovingly restored to Trans-Canada Air Lines (now Air Canada) colors and will be dismantled and trucked to Seattle for the final display in the future at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. It is currently located in Rome, NY.

Belavia Belarusian Airlines (Minsk) is getting ready to add ex-FlyLAL Boeing 737-5Q8 (msn 27629, ex LY-AZW). The new addition is being leased from ILFC. With this addition the Belavia fleet is now four Boeing 737-500s along with three 737-300s, three CRJ100/200s, four Tupolev Tu-154Ms and a single Tu-134.
Merpati Nusantara Airlines’ (Jakarta) de Havilland Canada DHC-6-300 Twin Otter PK-NVC (msn 626) is missing on a domestic flight in Papua (Indonesia) with 16 passengers and crew member on board. The passenger plane was reported missing yesterday (August 2) when it failed to arrive at Oksibil Airport (OKL) after a domestic flight from Jayapura (DJJ).

Sundt Atlanta Skybridge (Oslo-Gardermoen) is a joint venture between Air Atlanta Icelandic (Keflavik) and corporate jet operator Sundt Air (Oslo). The new JV will operate cargo charters. Boeing 747-230B (F) TF-ARM (msn 22363) was repositioned to OSL on June 24, 2009 and is now operating charter flights while still painted in basic Saudi Arabian Airlines colors.

Northwest Airlines-NWA (subsidiary of Delta Air Lines) (Minneapolis/St. Paul) had an incident yesterday afternoon at Minneapolis/St. Paul when its Boeing 747-251B (N623US, msn 21705) used for charter flights blew five tires on landing at MSP blocking runway 12. The aircraft was later removed.

Continental Airlines’ (Houston) flight CO 128 operating with Boeing 767-224 ER N76156 (msn 30435) with 168 passengers and crew from Rio de Janeiro to Houston (Bush Intercontinental) diverted and made an emergency landing at Miami after hitting clear air turbulence en route. The airliner landed safely at MIA at 0545 local time Monday. 27 passengers and crew were injured with five being transported to area hospitals. Four are listed as “serious” in local hospitals. Passengers are being rebooked on other flights to Houston.

Spirit of Manila Airlines (Manila-Diosdado Macapagal International Airport-Clark Field) has taken delivery of its first (of two) McDonnell Douglas DC-9-83 (RP-C7702, msn 49939, ex N939MD/EI-CBR). RP-C7702 joins the original 150-seat Boeing 737-300 which was accepted on January 20, 2009. The new airline will be operating regional routes in Asia and the Persian Gulf region and is catering to ex-pats working overseas who want to cheaply return home. The first announced route is the Clark-Bahrain route with a Boeing 767-300 ER starting on September 2.

CAIRO — An official at Cairo’s airport says a foot-long baby crocodile wriggled out of a passenger’s hand luggage and caused panic on a flight from the United Arab Emirates.
A crew member on the EgyptAir flight from Abu Dhabi rounded up the wayward reptile and calmed passengers. The airport security official says the animal was seized and given to the Cairo Zoo.
Transporting exotic animals in and out of the Egypt is illegal, and none of the passengers on today’s flight claimed ownership of the baby croc.
Ukraine International Airlines (Kiev) will add Abu Dhabi and the Kiev-Abu Dhabi route on September 25.
Cargolux Italia (Milan-Malpensa) is a new joint venture between Italian investors and Cargolux Airlines International S.A. (Luxembourg). The new company is now flying its assigned Boeing 747-4R7F LX-KCV (msn 25868) between Luxembourg, Milan (MXP) and Hong Kong via Dubai going eastbound. It returns via Baku going westbound. Operations commenced on June 13, 2009. LX-KCV carries Cargolux Italia titles

British Airways (London) as expected reported a net loss of $245 million for its fiscal first quarter ending on June 30. As a result BA will ground 22 Boeing 747-400s and 757-200s for the winter season.

Air Dominicana (Santo Domingo) will now launch operations on October 16 from SDQ to both Miami and New York (JFK).
Republic Airways Holdings (Indianapolis) yesterday (July 31) announced it had completed the acquisition of Midwest Airlines (Milwaukee) from TPG Capital. Midwest Airlines now becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of Republic and will retain its brand although the Boeing 717s will be phased out eventually leaving only Republic Airlines-operated aircraft. Some aircraft will have to be transferred to the Midwest AOC when the 717s are gone. Republic is now in a bidding contest with Southwest Airlines for Frontier Airlines (2nd).
